Mahan Date of Meeting: 02/25/2010 Major Topics: Minutes: FOREST HOME TOWNSHIP Special Meeting – Public Hearing February 25, 2010 Meeting called to order at 7:25 P.M. Officers Present: T. Smith, S. Mahan, T. Kent, D. Steiner, D. Crandall Guests: Forty-one – (List attached) Pledge of Allegiance Supervisor Smith opened the Hearing and offered those present the opportunity to comment on the proposed five year Parks & Recreation Plan. Comments ranged from requests for delay in approving the Plan; opposition to the Plan in general; opposition to Goal 1 as stated in the Plan (acquisition and development of Miley’s Park Beach); and support of the Plan. There were also several present who had questions such as “is there a deadline when the Grant must be submitted? April 1st; If not used for a beach, how many houses could be built there? three; Why was the Grant turned down last time? unknown; if a swimming area is roped off, isn’t there a need for a lifeguard? no; even if It’s still part of the plan, isn’t there still time to discuss the grant application? yes; has a referendum been considered? no; any studies done on access points for swimming? no. Motion by Crandall to approve Resolution #10 of 2009/2010 (Adoption of Parks & Recreation Plan). Supported by Kent and carried with the following voting: Aye: Kent, Smith, Crandall, Mahan, Steiner Nay: None Bellaire Fire District Board members, as well as several firemen were in attendance to address some concerns that the township board had over the current balance of $1.337M that the fire department has on hand. The discussion revolved around anticipated needs within the department and the possibility of substantially reducing the current millage rate of 1.25% to bring the balance more in line with fiscally accepted parameters. The Board will next meet with the Fire District at their annual Budget Hearing held in March. Meeting adjourned at 10:15 P.M. Suzanne C. Mahan Clerk ![]() |
