FOREST HOME TOWNSHIP
Special Meeting
March 22, 2006

Meeting called to order at 6:30 P.M.

Officers Present: T. Smith, S. Mahan, T. Kent, D. Steiner

Absent: D. Crandall

Pledge of Allegiance.

Motion by Smith to approve Article 23 of the Forest Home Township Zoning Ordinance (Rev. 01-20-06, #2, Rev. #3)as amended. Supported by Steiner and carried.

7:00 P.M.

Supervisor Smith called the Public Hearing to order (Propose to apply for a MDNR Recreation Grant to purchase Sevald property).

Supervisor Smith explained to those in attendance what the Grant Application entails.

Allen Luurtsema, Chairman of the Antrim Planning Commission informed the Board that the County Planning Commission wholeheartedly supports the plan.

Question from the audience – Will the use of motorized vehicles on the proposed pathway be allowed.

Supervisor Smith explained that the trail is intended as a walking path, but the property as a whole will be open for snowmobiles, ATV’s, etc., which pleased the questioner as he feels there is a lack of open land
where people can enjoy their motorized recreational vehicles.

Question from the audience – How will this purchase of land by the township affect the tax rolls – how much money will the township be losing in property taxes.

Treasurer Kent explained that this land is currently in a CFR and taxes realized from this property are less than $800.00 total per year, which equates to less than $100.00 per year (township’s share). Comment in response – the purchase of vacant property by the township is a good idea.

Motion by Kent to approve Resolution #5 of 05/06 (Authorizing Michigan Department of Natural Resources Recreation Grant Application to acquire property located within Forest Home Township). Supported by Steiner and carried with the following voting:

Aye: Kent, Smith, Mahan, Steiner
Nay: None
Absent: Crandall

Motion by Mahan to authorize T. Smith to sign Letter of Intent confirming that the township has budgeted and appropriated $100,000.00 and has received pledges from Grand Traverse Conservancy for $65,579.00 and G.D.O. Investments, LLC for $105,647.00 (match in land value) as local match. Supported by Kent and carried.

Meeting adjourned at 8:00 P.M.
