Forest Home Township should monitor the number and location of vacant under-utilized industrial properties in the area. Should the need for additional industrial property become evident, efforts could be made to identify specific industrial sites that are consistent with Forest Home Township goals.

MODERATE DENSITY RESIDENTIAL AREA

If planning had been done in the 1920's, then the shoreline surrounding Forest Home Township might have been designated as a low-density residential area. However, this area has been the location of seasonal cottages for the past eighty years. Most of the shoreline has been developed already with seasonal dwellings and guesthouses.

In recent years, many of these seasonal dwellings have been converted to year-round homes. As reflected in the 2000 Census, more seasonal residents are becoming year-round residents in Forest Home Township.

Because of the number of existing dwellings, the Moderate Density Residential Area is located along the shoreline surrounding three-fourths of the Township on Torch Lake, Clam Lake, Clam River, Grass River, Lake Bellaire, Intermediate River and Intermediate Lake. A density of two dwellings per acre describes the typical density of this area.

The area provides both public and private access to the water bodies surrounding Forest Home Township. Home-Based Businesses and Cottage Industries may be allowed, which do not negatively impact the shoreline or water quality. Any alteration of the land in this area should maintain the rural character of the shoreline and protect the high quality of the water.
