development
may require a community or centralized sewer system on site or connection to the Village of Bellaire Waste Water
Treatment System. The
High Density Residential Area should provide affordable for shared open space, parks & playgrounds. Public buildings,
schools, churches and public utility buildings may
also be appropriate in this area. Commercial
and service uses on a small scale with few employees, such as home occupations and cottage industries, will be
encouraged. They should be incidental to the
residential use and should not be disruptive to the neighbors. Home
occupations may be conducted within the dwelling and may include dressmaking, bookkeeping, accounting, consulting and
professional services. Cottage
industries may be conducted in an accessory building and may include farm markets, artist studios and woodworking
shops. Commercial uses that require
large numbers of employees on site, attract large numbers of customers, require
large structures or parking and storage areas are discouraged from locating in
Forest Home Township. Lands well suited
for intensive commercial uses exist within the "downtown" area of
Bellaire, in the area of the industrial park on Derenzy Road northeast of Bellaire and in the area of Prevo's Market on M-88 southeast
of Bellaire. Locating intensive commercial uses
in these areas will strengthen the existing
commercial activities already occurring there. Industrial parks with vacant
sites or vacant industrially zoned lands are currently
located in Mancelona, Elk Rapids, Ellsworth, Bellaire, Central Lake Township and Kearney Township. Many of these
properties have benefited from substantial
investment in community infrastructure, which has enabled these lands to be
used for industrial purposes. It is not in the best interests of the future of the Township, or Antrim County
as a whole, to attract industry to Forest Home Township. The topography
and geology in Forest Home Township, and the fact that the Township is a
peninsula surrounded by the highest quality
water in the State of Michigan makes this Township best suited for residential, rather than industrial uses. |
