GOAL #4 "Provide a level of community services that is appropriate to a rural area."

 

Objective #1           Overall Services

·                    Cooperate with other units of government to provide services that cannot be supported by our township alone or for those that are more efficient to provide on a multi-jurisdictional basis.

 

Objective #2           Public Service Districts

·                    Establish public service districts in which the level of future service for the various types of public and privately provided services are defined for a twenty year time period.

·                     Require the connection to central sewer as it becomes available.

 

Objective #3     Transportation

·                    Maintain existing road network.

·                    Develop a policy of the township assisting the Antrim

County Road Commission in developing and improving those

roads which service the majority of the township.

·                    Require persons developing or improving property to

provide the necessary road and trail system to service

the transportation needs of the development.

·                    Establish a priority system for making road

improvements within our township.

·                                         Control and limit the number and location of accesses to

the public road system.

·                    Develop non-motorized trail system to provide a safe means of movement within the township without having to rely upon automobiles as the sole source of transportation.

 

Objective #4           Recreation

·                Seek out and acquire future high value recreational lands.

·                                        Actively identify public access and boat launch sites and encourage the acquisition of these sites by appropriate state, county, village and township units of government.

·                                        Work with public bodies and nonprofit organizations such as the YMCA, Grass River Natural Area Inc., and the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy to develop appropriate recreational uses for current and future land holdings.

·                    Retain existing lake frontage.

·                    Where it is not possible to retain existing frontage, trade the property for frontage in areas where development is to be encouraged.

·                    Require new developments to provide a minimum level of recreation facilities for the future consumers or inhabitants of the development.

Objective #5     Stormwater Management

·                    Require stormwater retention basins and other on site improvements to minimize flow of water from land being developed to predevelopment levels.

·                    Inform property owners and developers of the existence of, and advocate the strict enforcement of the Antrim County Stormwater Run-off and Soil Erosion Control Ordinance.

 

Objective #6           Schools

·                                           Coordinate land uses and transportation improvement

with future school locations and expansions.

·                     Encourage school boards and administration to acquire

land well in advance of needs to insure affordable and

appropriately located future educational facilities.

 

Objective #7           Fire and Ambulance Services

Prohibit the development of property that is not capable of being accessed by emergency vehicles on a year-round basis
