GOAL #1           "Preserve and protect our township's natural resources." Objective # 1 Protect and enhance current high water quality

Zoning

·                Require greenbelts

·                     Limit development in wetlands

·                Limit development on Steep Slopes

·                     Establish maximum lot coverage

·                     Road and drive grade (paved vs. gravel)

·                                           Require setbacks from water bodies and property lines

Sanitary Code

·                     Required inspections upon sale of property

·                     Require connection when available

·                     Establish a well head protection program

Educational effort

·                    Work with MSU Extension, Tip of Mitt Watershed Council, and Lake Associations to educate residents about methods to eliminate individual and society's actions which contribute to a decline in water quality.

·                     Purchase development rights

·                     Transfer of development rights

·                     Farm land agreements

·                                           Restrict non farm related residential development

·                     Encourage cluster development

·                                           Restrict residential development to non-prime farmland

·                     Purchase Development Rights

·                     Commercial Forest Reserve Act agreements

·                     Restrict non-forest related residential development

·                     Encourage cluster development

·                                           Low density residential vs. percentage of ground coverage

·                     Identify prime forest land

·                                           Restrict residential development to non-prime forestland

·                     Limit taxation

·                     Limit non-forest related structures

·                                           Restrict clear cutting to those species for which clear

cutting is the only method in which they will reproduce

·                     Enforce penalties for dumping and littering

Objective #4           Protect Sensitive Areas

·                     Identify wetlands

·                     Require boardwalks through wetlands

·                     Limit or prohibit development in wetlands

·                     Require setbacks and greenbelts from all waterbodies

*     Prevent clear cutting on steep slopes

·                                Encourage the use of manual removal of logs to minimize

destruction of hill sides and erosion

·                     Identify and limit development on steep slopes

Objective #5 Protect Clean Air

·                Adopt limitations on open burning or refuse and yard wastes

·                     Provide for types of development that limit the need for automobile traffic

·                                           Provide biking and hiking trails as a means of reducing the use of automobiles to travel through out the township

Objective #6 Preserve Integrity of Land

·                    Regulate sand and gravel mining, and require site reclamation to prevent erosion and surface groundwater degradation

·                                           Regulate the placement of oil and gas transmission lines

·                    Regulate the placement of oil and gas processing facilities
