LAND USE

Forest Home Township consists of 23.6 square miles with 26.6 miles of lake and river shoreline and 4.85 linear miles of land composing its borders.

The Land Cover inventory completed in 1984 shows the vast majority of land covered by trees. The vast majority of residential lands ring the lakes, either waterfront or second tier development.

The residential land is occupied by single family dwellings for the most part. Less than 2 percent of the dwelling units located in Forest Home Township are classified as being other than single family residential according to the 1990 Census of Housing. The trend for the future is shifting from agricultural, forested and open or rangelands to residential use. Less than 900 acres of land has been consumed to provide an area for over 1000 dwelling units.
